Mayaguana - The Future Hot Spot
of the Bahamas

Mayaguana IslandMayaguana is the little known member of the Bahamas Out Islands that is developing a master plan to make this island the next hot spot in the Bahamas. A 7,300-foot rumway and internation airport is opening in 2008 and will pave the way for this emerging island destination.

Most have never heard of this Island in the Bahamas. The island currently attracts mainly fisherman and has only one 16 room boutique hotel. It only attracts about 100 visitors a year. However, Mayaguana located at the southeastern edge of the Bahamas has the location, the land and now the money backing it to become a major player in the Bahamas.

The next step is transforming 10,000 vacant acres into a tourism attraction. This island is the perfect setting for a new development that will include a luxury boutique resort, restaurants, spa, fitness center, marina village, private cillas and four nature preserves.

The Marina will accommodate yachts up to 100 feet long. The marina village will include single-unit villas, condominiums and shopping for boaters to enjoy.

Located 350 miles from Nassau, this island is served by Bahamasair, with three flights a week. The new international airport, opening in 2008 will accommodate aircraft as large as Boeing 737s.

The island is home to 300 native habitants and the development of the island is basically from scratch. They will be installing electricity in most areas and roadways which hardly exist on this island.

Mayaguana Diving and Fishing

The island is home to some of the best fishing and diving spots in the Caribbean. Several fishing magazines named Mayaguana as being one of the best fishing locations in the world. Balmy waters and a nearby reef create a desirable climate for many kinds of fish. Hired guides will be available for shallow-water and deep-sea fishing excursions.

Eco-tourists will find plenty here to do. Mayaguana's nature preserves are the perfect spot for observing animals. Area guies will educate tourists on the island's wildlife, including sea turtles, Bahamian rock iguanas, barracudas, crabs and 118 species of birds.
