Eleuthera Bahamas
Named after the Greek word for "freedom," Eleuthera was the first permanent settlement in The Bahamas. Together with Harbour Island, Eleuthera charms travelers with colonial villages and pineapple plantations.
The island is located approximately 200 miles from Miami and 60 miles from Nassau. Here you will find miles of magnificent pink-white beaches, sheltered coves, dramatic cliffs and incredible blue-green water. The island's charming New England architecture, which is reminiscent of the island's Loyalist history, is still very much in existence.
The island is divided into two regions, North Eleuthera and South Eleuthera. The North encompasses Harbour Island, Spanish Wells, Upper & Lower Bogue, The Bluff, The Current & Current Island, Gregory Town, Hatchet Bay and James’ Cistern.
The South encompasses Governor’s Harbour, Palmetto Point, Savannah Sound, Tarpum Bay, Rock Sound, Green Castle, Deep Creek, Waterford, Wemyss Bight and Bannerman Town.
Eleuthera is an unspoiled escape with secluded areas and enchanting shipwrecks.
Eleuthera has been a romantic hideaway for the British Royal Family for many years. This 110 mile long island is where Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana spent a holiday in 1982 and where Prince Edward proposed to Sophie in 1999.
Eleuthera is little known by a lot of the well-traveled who frequent the Caribbean. It remains a hidden gem. The reward for most travelers who make their way to Eleuthera is the simple island life, and an untouched paradise waiting to be discovered.
Fascinating Sights
Glass Window Bridge - From the bridge, you can view the rich blue waters of the Atlantic on one side of the road and the calm green waters of the Caribbean on the other.
Ocean Hole - A large inland saltwater lake a mile southeast of Rock Sound, is connected by tunnels to the sea. Ocean Hole is popular for feeding fish or climbing the cliffs for a dramatic view of both the Caribbean and Atlantic oceans.

Eleuthera Beaches
Ten Bay Beach is one of the more noted beaches located on the Caribbean side with very shallow which makes it popular for families with young children.
Lighthouse Beach is one of the finest beaches on the island, and difficult to get to but well worth the effort. There are absolutely no building around for miles so pack a lunch and plenty of bottled water, along with anything else you might need and spend the day there.
Twin Coves Beach was the setting for a movie filmed in Eleuthera, called "Three", filmed in 2005. There are many nearby, offshore reefs, good for snorkeling.
Double Bay Beach is one of the best beaches on the island. Famous celebrities have homes here, including Patti LaBelle. The beach is five miles long, very sandy, and wide.
Whiteland Beach is a beautiful hard to reach beach that is reef protected but still boasts a long beach with sun-whitened sand and beautiful areas of pink sand. There is an even, sandy bottom and many natural tiny coves to swim around in. Whiteland Beach is very hidden and to get there requires a jeep. It is a rough road, so don't try it unless you have a jeep. It is located in the southern part of the island, near Rock Sound.
Rainbow Beach one of the few sizable beaches on the Caribbean side of the island is calm and tranquil. Rainbow Beach is an easily accessible beach close to the Rainbow Inn.
